As a school counselor, I am here to assist my students with identifying and executing academic goals, building a future career plan, and managing life's curveballs along the way.
Academic Advising & Support
Students meet with their school counselors to navigate course placements, schedule adjustments, study habits, time management, and other academic goals. We assess individual students' interests, needs, and abilities to help craft schedules that promote success and growth.
Counselors partner with students as they discover their career interests and define post-secondary goals, whether that means applying to college, going to trade school, entering the workforce, or enlisting in the military.
Hillsborough High School utilizes Scoir as a central hub for college applications. Students can explore career options and search colleges, while we use the platform to send out required supplemental documents such as transcripts and letters of recommendation.
During the school year, school counselors are available to provide brief, goal-oriented support to students navigating academic, social, and emotional hurdles. When meeting with students, we work together to construct a repertoire of skills, which may include emotional regulation, conflict resolution, and stress management, to foster resilience and overall well-being.
Staff, Family, & Community Collaboration
School counselors communicate with school staff, parents/guardians, and community providers to establish a holistic support system for every student. This vital bridge between school and home will allow for continuity of care and early detection for those who may need a higher level of care from outside services.
Crisis Intervention & Referrals
When a student crisis arises, counselors swiftly respond to ensure student safety. We conduct risk assessments, facilitate referrals to higher levels of care, and assist families in connecting with outside resources.
